We are a generation that wants to make a difference, an impact. We toss words around like sustainable, because we don’t just want to throw money at a situation, we want to see lasting effect. And we are also a generation of consumers. So when we put those two together, we get Pure Charity.
Because we are often stay at home moms juggling kids and carpools, diapers and soccer. Or we are full-time two income households with careers and meetings, and agendas. Or we are single moms doing it all. Any way you slice it, time is a commodity that is almost always in high demand. We are busy.
I want to make time to have company over and grill hamburgers in the backyard, to volunteer at the local community center, to go on date nights with my husband, and to read a good book. (Currently reading Everything: What You Give and What You Gain to Become Like Jesus which is excellent)
So what do we do when the margin in our lives is closing in but our hearts are stirred and we still want to do what we can? The brilliant people at Pure Charity have found a way you can make a huge difference with things you already do on a day-to-day basis.
Here’s how it works.
Pretty incredible right? Here’s how to join in.
1. First, follow me here. Then scroll down and create your own account. Think of it as a personal charity account. You sign up, free of charge, and create an account called your Giving Fund. You can add tax-deductible donations that can then be used to back projects you care about. That makes it personal, because God puts different passions into each of our hearts and when we’re passionate about a charity, we use our voice and actions to make a difference.
But what if things are really tight right now and that’s been a major reason you haven’t been able to donate or get involved in charitable giving? Well, here’s where Pure Charity has taken it all a step further.
You can earn money for your projects just by shopping at the places you already know and love.
They even have local deals for those who want to support businesses close to home, so when I go to Alpenglow downtown on a breakfast date with the hubby, I can eat my homemade granola and know I am making a difference.
2. You just install the browser plugin and you get a cute little icon. It automatically shows up when you shop a participating site. And there are over 1000! Stores like Gap, Apple, Best Buy, Sephora, Priceline, Target…. I could go on and on but you get the picture.
3. Don’t like to shop online, said no one ever. But if you’re out there, this is for you. You can add your primary credit/debit card to your account and when you use it in store a percentage automatically goes to your account. You don’t have to do anything!
4. When you make purchases a percentage gets added to your Giving Fund and when you share promotions with your friends and they sign up and use the Rewards Network to shop, you get a percentage of their purchases towards your fund.
5. Browse the projects that are close to your heart! Want to support educational resources, hurricane relief from Sandy, Haitian orphanages, inner city homelessness? You have options.
It’s all pretty amazing and with the Christmas Season coming up, it’s a perfect time to start making a difference and seeing how you can use your passions to bless others. So sign up, and share the news on Facebook, twitter, carrier pigeon, morse code. Seriously people! How can you pass this by?
We can make an impact, our choices and our voice matter.
